Client Service is my Calling

For Senior Wealth Advisor Jeanette Power, being there for her clients is more than part of the job, it's a philosophy that informs everything she does

Client Service is my Calling
Jeanette Power

[Inspirational music plays]

[Jeanette Power walks out of the CIBC Private Wealth Gallery at CIBC Square.]

Deep and lasting relationships with anyone, regardless if it's a client, a friend or family member, all requires you to be interested in the person, and to actually care about what they're saying.

[Jeanette Power
Senior Wealth Advisor
CIBC Private Wealth]

It's never about you. That naturally fosters a relationship with a client, and that's how I've built my business.

[Jeanette talks to a colleague at a long table. A meeting with Jeanette’s team in a boardroom.]

I've just had an interest in people and listening to what's important to them.

A life advisor to me, is someone that the client can confide in, someone that the client can lean on in hard times.

[Jeanette talks to a client in her office.]

You know, there's been many times that my meetings with clients actually never get to the investment part.

[A hospital hallway. Hands with pens pour over documents.]

They may sit with me and confide in me that they've been diagnosed with an illness or that they're going through a divorce.

[Flowers adorn a gravestone. To women cut a wedding cake. A man kneels and proposes to a woman.]

I've been to many funerals, many weddings. You know, I'm often the first person they call when their child is engaged.

[A man and woman embrace at their wedding. An aerial shot of a cemetary.]

So, life advisor to me, simply means someone that the client can count on, someone they can trust, someone who is there for them in the good times and the bad times. My role is really just to support them any way I can.

[A middle-aged businesswoman looks concerned in her office.]

You may have some people that are intimidated by the financial discussion. Some people will want to be spenders, some people will want to be savers.

[A multi-generational family have a BBQ in a backyard.]

Regardless, it's a lot to do with how we were brought up, what we saw as children.

[Jeanette works on a laptop in the CIBC Square cafeteria.]

My role is to help clients understand that, so that we can move forward and work on the goals, whatever that goal may be.

It may be retirement, to buy a cottage, to save for a house, plan for a wedding, fund a child's education.

[Jeanette types in her office.]

By doing the financial plan and showing them the power of compounding and the power of time investing, that really helps alleviate a lot of the stress that they have inside them. Markets go up and markets go down. With a solid financial plan, my job is to make sure that as the markets become volatile, we’re stress testing these financial plans and with that, I can show clients that they are still on track because we're invested for the long-term.

[Jeanette talks to a client in her office. A framed Women Wealth and Wellness promotional document.]

The Women Wealth and Wellness event series came about as a collaborative effort.

[A professional woman walks into a large building.]

We wanted to put together a series specifically for females – draw the female client out. Quite often we're so busy being caretakers – naturally, we look after people.

[Jeanette drinks from a mug that says, “MOM. WIFE. BOSS.”, at her desk. Jeanette talks to a client in her office.]

We're mothers, we’re sisters, we’re spouses, we're partners, we run businesses. And we wanted something that we could do for them that was fun and educational at the same time.

[Screenshots of from the Women Wealth and Wellness promotional website.]

So, we came up with, Women Wealth and Wellness.

[Jeanette has a meeting with her team in a boardroom.]

I collaborate with CIBC’s team of experts, and I have to say, we are so fortunate to have the team that we have.

[An advisor talks to a young couple. Jeanette talks to a client in her office.]

The financial planners that we have are some of the best I've ever worked with in the 25 years I've been with CIBC. They're amazing. So, when we sit down with clients, and because we are starting with the financial plan, from there we get into what's important to them.

So, we get into legacy planning, that often brings in our insurance specialists.

[Images of luxury Canadian real-estate. Members of the CIBC Trust team walk through the lobby of CIBC Square.]

We get into the estate discussion, and then of course CIBC Trust. I often tell clients I have a financial plan. I work with CIBC Trust for my own estate. I have insurance. So, they know, whatever I'm bringing to the table for them is something I truly believe in because I've done it for my own family.
